Yesterday my lab led a mushroom foray at the EcoTarium, here in Worcester. A mixed group of older and younger adults (including Worcester area Boston Mycological Club members) and lots of kids came out to hunt for mushrooms on the wooded grounds of the museum. It has been terribly dry lately, but the visitors, particularly the children, found a bunch of cool things (green Russulas, puffballs at various stages of development, wood decayers, oak galls with wasps still inside, etc). Children are born naturalists and their curiosity is inspiring. I hope to do this again next year.
