Last night, I gave a presentation on fungal genomics and evolution to the Boston Mycological Club at the Harvard Herbaria. I write about this here, mostly because I would like to draw attention to this wonderful organization. The BMC proudly proclaims that it is “the oldest amateur mycology club in the United States”. A core group of dedicated non-professional mycologists runs the Club, which offers walks (forays) throughout the mushroom season, ID sessions, lectures, classes, and banquets. The BMC web site provides information about all club activities and has lots of beautiful mushroom photography and artwork. The walks are open to the public and provide a fantastic opportunity to learn about fungi, visit some nice natural areas, and enjoy the company of other mycophiles. All are welcome.
