An essay on “Evolutionary Biology for the 21st Century” has just been published in PLoS Biology. This grew out of a workshop that was organized by Jonathan Losos in 2011 (adjacent to the Evolution meeting in Norman Oklahoma), with support from the NSF. The article highlights key applications of evolutionary biology, emerging research areas, and needs for training and infrastructure development.
