For well over a year, John Taylor and I have been chipping away at an essay on fungal taxonomy, which finally appeared online today in Nature Reviews Microbiology. It would have been nice to have gotten this out earlier, but the timing is actually not so bad, as the new International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi and Plants, which eliminates Article 59 (dual nomenclature for pleomorphic taxa), just went into effect on January 1, 2013.
