Kiyohiko Igarashi and Chiaki Hori from the University of Tokyo Forest Chemistry Laboratory visited Clark today. Both are collaborators on the Saprotrophic Agaricomycotina Project. Kiyo gave a seminar titled “Fungal Enzymes for Biorefinery of Cellulosic Biomass” that included amazing movies of cellulases travelling along the surface of crystalline cellulose in real time, made with high speed atomic force microscopy (see Igarashi et al. 2011. Science 333: 1279).
