Larry Grand Symposium, NC State University, 11/3/11

On Nov. 3 I gave the keynote address at the Dr. Larry F. Grand Mycological Herbarium Dedication and Symposium at NC State University. Much of Larry’s work has concerned a careful county-by-county study of polypores of North Carolina, resulting in fine-grained distribution maps (such as that for the “turkey tails” polypore, Trametes versicolor, below) and detailed substrate records. This work is directly relevant to my lab’s current PolyPEET project as well as our work on evolution of decay mechanisms. It was a real honor to be part of this event, which also included Larry’s professional colleagues, students, and family.
